De-Facies (from Latin facies, “mask”) stems from Lackan’s concept of the “mirror stage”— a fundamental moment in human development that is necessary for us to become conscious of our self-existence. Seated inside the shop window, the performer is making a mask by sticking wrapping paper directly on her face. She, like a chameleon, is trying to merge with her surroundings, and disappear in the colours of her shiny backdrop. After she has completed her mask, the performer will continue the work in the streets around the Performance Shop, where the audience is invited to follow her.
